Music Monday [9]: Lyric Medley Tag

For this week's Music Monday, I'm hitting two birds with one stone and completing the Lyric Medley Tag on my Monday feature—for which I was tagged by Alyssa (I'm obviously running out of laudatory adjectives to describe her).

Anyway, into the mess that is my music taste!

Here are the tag rules:
  • Thank and link back to the person who tagged you.
  • Make a collage that represents your taste in music to go along with your tag post.
  • List a song for each of the 10 questions below (or make up your own!) and include your favorite lyrics from that song, if you'd like. If you want to explain why you chose that song, that's cool too - go crazy with it!
  • Tag at least 5 bloggers
Since Alyssa's tag post didn't have any questions (it was a Thranduil playlist because she's just that cool) and I'm not sure if the original questions are a good fit for me, I'll make up my own! It won't be frighteningly random or anything, I promise. *nervous smile*

my collage (summing up my music taste? impossible!)

one: a song that makes me feel positively wicked

"Glory and Gore" by Lorde

We gladiate but I guess we're really fighting ourselves
Roughing up our minds so we're ready when the kill time comes
Wide awake in bed, words in my brain,
"Secretly you love this—do you even wanna go free?"
Let me in the ring, I'll show you what that big word means

two: a song that makes me feel like a fairy-tale character

"Storm Song" by Phildel

I'll send a storm

to capture your heart
and bring you home.
Oh, carried on the breeze
you'll never find me, gone.
Oh, faster than the post train,
burning like a slow flame on,
I'll send a storm
to capture your heart
and bring you home.

three: a song that gives me chills every time i hear it

"Icarus" by Paola Bennet

so i'll remember this
as i stretch my wings:
for birds like me,
every beat's a reckoning
and i'll take a breath
think i'm gaining ground
but so did icarus before he came tearing down

four: a song that doubles as a love story

"Chasing All the Stars" by Fleurie

There's a silence staring me down
If I could see you I bet I'd break in half
But there's a disconnect, I can see it's tearing us apart
There's a promise I made that I can't keep
All my regret testifies that I am
Far from flawless always reckless, can I borrow your forgiveness
I say I need some space but all we've got are

Whoa, oceans between us
Whoa, separating

five: a song that completely carves out my chest with aching

"Still" by Daughter

Two feet standing on a principle
Two hands digging in each others wounds
Cold smoke seeping out of colder throats
Darkness falling, leaves nowhere to move

six: a song with a very special urban magic

"Smokestacks" by LAYLA

You got eyes so azure
You got blood orange skin
Are there's a spark in your centre that's piercing me in
I got a night-time shudder and a lion within
I got a brain-tricked hunger and you're pulling me in

seven: a song that is the stuff of legend

"King and Lionheart" by Of Monsters and Men

Howling ghosts – they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
And in the sea that's painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.

eight: a song that would play during the apocalypse

"No Light No Light" by Florence + the Machine

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

nine: a song that makes me smile, pure and simple

"Winter Song" by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson

My voice—a beacon in the night
My words will be your light

To carry you to me

ten: a song that would be perfect for a modern gatsby

The power of youth is on my mind,
Sunsets, small town, I'm out of time.
Will you still love me when I shine,
From words but not from beauty?

I TAG: Cait @ Paper Fury / MorningTime4 @ The Ups and Downs of My Not-So-Average Life / Paola @ Charming Comforts / Sky @ Further Up and Further In / I couldn't think of a fifth person, so anyone should feel free to do it if they'd like to! (Just say I tagged you. I totally did.)

(Don't feel obliged to do it; I'm just really curious about your music tastes! If you do end up doing it, have fun!)

So, dear readers, is your music taste anything like mine or am I just an odd little platypus (as usual)? Were there any songs in particular you enjoyed? Do share your thoughts!

  1. I ... hadn't known any of these songs beforehand. I heard Lorde's Everyone Wants to Rule the World (in another Thranduil playlist, guess what), and I'd heard the myth of Icarus, and so I think I most enjoyed those two -- but seriously, ALL OF THESE are gems. Your music taste is phenomenal.

Also, THANK YOU for all the compliments you've given me, not only in this post, but so many others. You're an absolute ray of sunshine, Christina -- stay awesome!

  2. Christina, your music taste is beyond amazing. I think my favourite was "Icarus" - new artist to me, but her voice is beautiful and the chorus was just asdfghjkl; gorgeous. And "Winter Song" and "Glory and Gore" are an old favourites of mine as well; the former is sweet and lovely, and the latter makes me feel like I can conquer the world (while looking kickass and wearing heels, of course). Love this post! x

  3. Omg, I love your music taste! I love Florence + The Machine (I love the yellow dress song, gah, I can't remember the title right now but the one from the Great Gatsby). And I DO like Lorde, but our neighbour blasted 3 tracks on repeat for 12 hours and now....I refuse to listen to Lorde. -_- But hopefully that will pass. haha. Thanks for the tag!!
